Marions hands came together to clap once, loudly, and he threw his fist into the air. "Great! I'll send an owl... oh, drat. I'll send a letter to Mom right away. She'd flip if I sent another owl this year. Hmm... I wonder how I'll get to a muggle post office. Maybe I can ask one of the professors..." He served himself a few things, not really paying attention to what he was putting on his plate. It all looked so good, and he really was too happy to taste it anyway. He'd have his friends over for Christmas! Now if only he could tell Cres the truth... "And don't forget, we'll all have to pretend to be muggles. That's the only drawback."

"Muggle post?" Gideon inquired, puzzled. "How do Muggles send things to each other without owls? I assume it would be a rather tedious task to walk all the way to a friend's house for the mere delivery of a letter, and what would be the point? They can see the other in person, so there would be no need for a letter at all!" The boy shook his head. "Really, I don't know how they get along with magic.... Owls, at least...."
"Well how are we supposed to do that?!" the Hufflepuff demanded, freezing with his fork halfway to his mouth. He put it back down on the plate, frowning. "We can't use magic outside of school anyways, though, so I s'pose it won't be too much of a leap. But honestly, we should at least get the Daily Prophet. Especially with...." He trailed off, thinking of the current war at hand. People dying everyday, Muggles and Wizards alike. The Daily Prophet was the only way they'd be able to keep up with it all.

"Oh, they figure out ways. Really, they do. They just have someone ELSE deliver it for them. It really is more trouble than it's worth, but I don't want to have Mum upset with me." He started mixing his potatoes with some butter, then sprinkled on some cinnimon and sugar. He was taking his sweet time getting his food prepared, but he was so excited that he really wasn't that hungry.
The boy nodded, his hair spilling forward. "I know; I know. Mum doesn't want to hear a word of it, though, no matter how much I've tried to tell her that WE could be targets. She doesn't care, and won't take any protection. It scares me, really." He stabs at a piece of roast and starts cutting it carefully. Still, not a piece of food has touched his lips. He also doesn't seem as cheerful, although he really is excited and hoping that his friends won't change their minds. "We can probably have the post delivered, if we can figure out a way that they only deliver it to my room. Cres never goes in there, and Mum doesn't either, so we should be able to hide the post..." He finished cutting the roast and finally speared a few greens onto his fork. "I don't want to be kept out of the loop either."

Gideon shook his head, smiling. "It really is quite silly.... Honestly, the muggles would make it so much easier on themselves if they used owls."
Gideon wondered why on earth anyone wouldn't want protection from the rising Dark Lord. It not only endangered Mrs. Cutting, but Marion and his siblings. The boy didn't know what he'd do if Marion got killed by He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named....
"That'll work," agreed Gideon, nodding. Well, that was sorted out.... Now, though, their minds would not need to be laden with thoughts of the outside world. For now, all they needed to worry about was the large mounds of food that needed to be eaten.

"They would, but can you honestly think of a way for them to train owls to do such a thing? They don't exactly have all the conveniences that wizards have, so they deal with what they do have, which is one another." He shook his head and stuck the vegetables in his mouth to keep back another chuckle. When he looked at it from the muggle side, nothing in the wizarding world made sense. When he looked through the other side of the mirror, nothing in the muggle world made sense. No wonder the wizards were so secretive. How odd it was to be of both worlds.
Gideon turned his attention back to his food and Marion looked down at his plate. My, he had served himself a great deal of food. He wondered absently if his stomach would be able to hold so much. He wasn't hungry by any means, although he hadn't eaten all day. The butterflies of excitement were flitting about, though, and he thought it would be best to give them something to munch on as well. Anyway, this food would all just go to waste if he didn't eat it now. Thus it was that he began to eat with gusto, although without any lack of table manners. "Mmm, have you tried the squash, yet, Gid?"

"Hm.... No," Gideon managed through a mothful of penne pasta. He reached over and helped himself to the recommended dish. Good Merlin, he could eat like a pig! Remembering something Molly had once told him, Gideon decided he had best take a break and wait for all this food to go down before eating much more. He looked over at Aya, who had barely eaten anything.
"Ayanna, aren't you hungry?" Gideon asked in dismay. "Look at all the food!" He was laughing, feeling very much at ease with a full stomach. "I don't think I saved enough room for dessert," the Hufflepuff said worriedly. How horrible! Well, he'd just cram it in....
Looking over at the Ravenclaw table, Gideon spotted his brother. What would Fabian and Molly said if they saw him pigging out like this?!
"I won't have to eat another bite for at least three weeks," sighed Gideon, his stomach suddenly aching.
((Haha! Seriously, I eat just like him....))

Marion laughed as his friend piled more onto his plate. Now he didn't feel so bad, seeing how much Gideon was eating. What was wrong with enjoying some food, anyway? He chewed his roast with relish, very much enjoying the savory dish... until Gideon speaks to Ayanna. Was something wrong that she didn't want to eat? He hoped that she was feeling well.
"Wow, I must've lost all concept of time. I didn't realize that three weeks would pass between now and morning." With a wicked grin, Marion found this an opportune time to take a swig of his juice: opportune because Gideon couldn't smack him for his comment, that is.

"Stop rambling," instructed Gideon. "Really, I won't be able to eat my breakfast tomorrow, I'm way too full...." He pushed his plate away so he'd have room to fold his arms on the table and rest his chin on his arms, feeling pleasantly tired.
"If there wasn't going to be dessert," continued the boy, "I'd head up to the dormitory right now and go to sleep."

Aya looked down at her plate. All the talk of the Dark Lord reminded her of her parents, who were dead. She started poking at her food, until Gideon spoke up. "Huh? Oh, yeah! I'm hungry! Really hungry, I mean, I'm so hungry...Um...Why don't we talk about something more happier? Like Quidditch? I love Quidditch! Don't you think we have a good team this year? And I'm not playing Chaser, so it's probably going to be an even better year!" She talked at such a fast rate to get off of the topic before she started crying, that she hardly made any sense. "But I can look like a muggle! I mean, I live in muggle clothing. As long as you don't mind muggle band shirts. That's about the only shirts I have."

Marion smiled brightly, realization dawning on him. Instead of lingering on the 'whys', he decided to help Ayanna change the subject. "Band shirts are great! I don't keep up with pop music, but I bet Cres does. Maybe the two of you will get along." He chuckled and had a bit more of the potatoes. "It'd be nice if we could bring a bit of cheerfulness to the house this holiday. Mum's none too cheerful, and Cres hasn't had a proper Christmas for a while."

"I listen to Rock. Didn't you ever wonder why I live in my AC/DC shirt?" She half-laughed, still thinking about the previous subject. She tried to smile but it looked more like a grimmace.

Gideon grinned. "You'll have to tell me about these Muggle bands.... Cas mentioned a few back in October. What do they sound like? How do Muggles listen to them?" It really was rather fascinating, and, for a moment, the boy wondered why he'd decided against taking Muggle Studies. It certainly would've helped....
The Hufflepuff noticed that Aya was still looking rather downcast, and wondered what he might do to cheer her up, even a little bit. He tried to catch Marion's eye-- the other boy could cheer anyone up during any situation. Couldn't he do something now? Gideon hated seeing Ayanna go depressed.

Hope had been daydreaming for the past couple of minutes, and had suddenly snapped back to reality. Hope opened her mouth to say something, but was interupted with a loud growl from her stomach. She put a hand on it and said,"Is anyone else hungry? This is supposed to be a feast afterall.."

"Food's here!" Sabbath cheered, forgetting Clover's dress. She grabbed a turkey leg and started muching. Her face turned serene. "Oh god this is good!!" she said. Taking a big glop of stuffing she started to eat, forgettin the things around her.
